This Kaffir Lime Colada is a South East Asian twist on the classic Puerto Rican Pina Colada. Did you know the Pina Colada originated in Puerto Rico because I had no idea. That is, until I started looking at the variety of Pina Colada recipes out there!
If you have not heard of them before, a Kaffir lime is quite similar in size to a Key Lime, but with a much more distinct flavor. The limes as well as the leaves are used in all types of South East Asian cuisine, and are a key ingredient in dishes like Tom Yum Goong, Tuna Sambal Matah, and Sayur Urab.
If you can’t find Kaffir Limes, I would suggest substituting with Bergamot Orange, as I believe the flavor to mix well. A regular lime may be too sour in this drink which also has the acidity of the pineapple.
Kaffir Lime Colada Ingredients
50 ml Kaffir Lime Juice
50 grams Pineapple; fresh, cubed.
50 ml Coconut Cream
60 ml White Sugarcane Rum
Kaffir Lime Colada Instructions
1. Crush the pineapple into a shaker. You can use your hands, but I find a garlic press works perfectly for this sort of thing.
2. Add ice along with the Kaffir Lime Juice, Coconut Cream, and White Sugarcane Rum and shake well
3. Pour the drink into two rocks glasses and serve. You can garnish with Kaffir Limes if you like.
