Ham And Manchego Tarts

Ham And Manchego Tarts with green onion on a plate

I find tartlets to be the ultimate upscale party food. They are super easy to make, one or two bite treats, and have enough variety to appeal to all kinds of diets. These ham and manchego tarts only have 4 ingredients and take less than 15 minutes start to finish!

For this recipe, like almost all my tart or tartlet recipes, I am using store-bought tart shells. If you want to make your own you can simply follow a pate brisee recipe and use your own molds. However I find store bought to just be so much more convenient.

Savory tarts are a great party food, and the complete opposite of their sweeter cousins. Other savory tarts I love are a classic French tomato tart and my super fun octopus pisto tartelettes.

Ham And Manchego Tarts Recipe

This recipe only has 4 ingredients, and they are all just things you can buy at the store. This makes these ham and manchego tarts a wonderful canape for your next dinner or cocktail party.

Ingredients

  • 12 Tartlet Shells – the brand or shape don’t matter too much, just look for something that is your standard butter crust shell.
  • 1/2 cup Ham – diced into very small cubes, almost like a hash
  • 1/2 cup Manchego Cheese – grated using a microplane or other small holed grater.
  • 1 tbsp Roasted Red Pepper Puree – I find this adds a little more fruityness to the dish, and balances the salty/savory ham and cheese mixture quite well. This ingredient can be easily subbed for many things though, so if you cannot find it don’t worry.

Mix the ham and manchego together with the roasted red pepper paste in a bowl. Then fill each tartlet shell with a heaping teaspoon of filling. Try to pack it in a nice mound so the top bits get a little crispy when baked.

Place the tarts on a baking tray and put in an oven at 200C or 400F for 8 minutes. Remove, garnish with a sliver of green onion, and serve. This recipe can be easily upscaled, which will likely happen as these are very popular hors d’oeuvres at my own cocktail parties!
