If you love Boursin cheese but want to save a bit of money then this recipe is for you. This easy homemade Boursin cheese is a great way to make enough Boursin for a party without spending a lot of money. Not to mention, you can adjust the seasonings to suit your preferences!
The original Boursin cheese is made in Croisy-sur-Eure, Normandy and it uses a Gournay style cheese. Essentially this is a tasty flavored cream cheese that goes great on bread.
How To Make The Best Homemade Boursin Cheese

Since Boursin is a flavored cream cheese, the main ingredient should be…well, creamed cheese. Now, when I am making my homemade Boursin cheese I like to use Laughing Cow. I know many people recommend Philadelphia, but trust me, laughing cow is way better for this.
What You Will Need
- 280 grams (about 10 ounces) Laughing Cow Cheese – you can buy this in wedges or blocks. I find since we are going to mix and mash it anyways, buy the blocks as they’re cheaper and have less packaging.
- 2 Shallots – finely minced
- 1 tbsp Green Onion – finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Parsley – flat leaf, finely chopped
- 1 tsp Basil – dried
- 1 tsp Oregano – dried
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- Black Pepper – to taste
- Salt – optional. I know, salt should never be optional, but in this case hear me out. Since I like to use this homemade boursin cheese for a variety of things it is best to not add extra salt. You can always add it later.

The best thing about this recipe is that it really just takes a few minutes. After prepping all your herbs you can just chuck everything in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment and let run for a minute or so.

Once everything is mixed you can put it in a container to store it. Or you can prep a mold so you can more beautifully present it to your guests.

To shape the cheese just line a ramekin with some plastic wrap or foil. Spoon in the cheese and smooth it out. You want to get the cheese compacted in there otherwise it won’t come out very nicely.

Then flip the ramekin over, remove it and peel off the plastic layer. If you want the signature Boursin ridges along the side you can scrape upwards with a fork to emulate them.

Spread some of this delicious homemade Boursin cheese over a thick slice of crusty bread for a snack. Or top it with some confit mushrooms like I do in my chanterelle toast recipe for a great vegetarian appetizer.
