Crab Salad Sandwich

If you’re like me, you’re enjoying all the wonderful potlucks, BBQs, and general outdoor get-togethers summer has to offer. Well, here’s a recipe for a potluck staple – the crab salad sandwich. Simple crab salad served in a soft roll is perfect for socializing by the pool.

This sandwich is basically my regular crab salad recipe stuffed into bread so for all intents and purposes it’s a repost. But I have to find a way to make extra content as a food blogger without writing paragraph after paragraph about how little Timmy got an A on his reading score so wanted his favorite crab salad sandwich for dinner.

Crab Salad Sandwich Ingredients

Ingredients: Crab Salad + hoagie rolls. Ok just kidding, here’s all the ingredients to make a deliciously addicting crab salad (plus a hoagie roll).

Crab Salad Sandwich Ingredients

  • 8 Bread Rolls – hoagie rolls are the perfect size and shape for these crab salad sandwiches in my experience, but you can use whatever bread you like.
  • 500 grams Crab Sticks (imitation crab meat) – also known as Krab Sticks, Imitation Crab Sticks, and a few other names. Chop the sticks into small pieces about a centimeter in length. (About 1 pound)
  • 150 grams Mayonnaise – you can use store-bought or homemade mayonnaise. Feel free to add more if you prefer.
  • Yellow Onion– finely diced. You can also substitute and use finely diced shallot as well.
  • 2 stalks Celery – finely diced
  • 1 tbsp Tarragon – chopped
  • 2 tsp Dill – chopped
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Salt – or more to taste

How to make the best Crab Salad Sandwich

Take all your ingredients (except the bread) and add them to a bowl. Mix everything thoroughly with a spoon or rubber spatula. When combined you can put in the fridge to chill while you work on the bread.

hoagie roll with bread pulled out

Use a small knife to cut a slit down one side of the bread. Carefully open it and use your fingers to pull out a lot of the bread inside. This will allow more room for the crab salad.

Use a spoon to scoop the crab salad into the bread. You can overstuff it a little, but don’t force it or you will bread the bread. Enjoy!
