Basil in a cocktail? What is this world coming to. Hear me out though, it may not be normal, but it definitely makes for a unique cocktail that people aren’t soon to forget. The combination of Basil, Citrus, and Tropical flavors make this Basil cocktail a perfect drink for a celebration or party. It doesn’t hurt that it is an absolutely beautiful drink to look at either.
As pictured above you can notice that it is served in an old fashioned champagne glass, however if you want, you can serve it in a modern fluted champagne glass and make it a signature cocktail for a classy cocktail party.
This drink is garnished with a fresh basil leaf. It has a rim coated in a mix of fine white sugar mixed with edible luster dust.
Basil Cocktail Ingredients:
50 ml Vodka
5 ml Lime Juice
5 ml Passionfruit Syrup
10 grams Mashed Coconut
3 Basil Leaves
10 ml Fresh Lemon Juice
10 ml Pineapple Juice
50 ml Sparkling Water
Sugar and Silver Luster Dust; for the rim
1. In a cocktail shaker add the Raw Coconut, 2 Basil Leaves and Lime Juice. Mash everything together using a cocktail muddler until combined. Add Ice, Vodka, Passionfruit Syrup, Lemon Juice, and Pineapple Juice, and shake hard.
2. In a dish combine some Fine White Sugar with a bit of Silver Luster Dust. Wipe a lemon wedge around the glasses edge and dip the rim into the Sugar/Luster Dust mix.
3. Strain the cocktail shaker into the glass, top up with the sparkling water and garnish with 1 Basil Leaf.
This cocktail takes a while to make with many ingredients one is unlikely to just have laying around. For that reason I suggest this as an evening’s signature cocktail, maybe paired with one or two other fancy cocktails for a party. It is unlikely this would be a good choice for say a garden party or a brunch due to the time necessary to make each one.
This type of cocktail would pair well with a savory hors d’ouevre such as my Pear and Blue Cheese Tartlets.
