One of the things I try to do in every country I visit is a traditional cooking class. I didn’t go to culinary school, but I have done hundreds of hours of classes from chefs all over the world. To me, this is one of the best ways to learn a country or region’s culture. I look forward to finding awesome and unique cooking classes everywhere I go.
I was staying in Ubud so I wanted to find something not too far away, preferably with pickup and drop-off included. Luckily I booked my class at Pemulan Bali who provided everything I was looking for. The class took place on the patio of their farm and was a perfect setting to cook 7 different recipes.

Introduction
I did the afternoon class so I was picked up at 12pm. After picking up three more people we drove north for about 45 minutes to the location of the farm. Arrival time: 1pm.
Upon arriving we were greeted by the farmers and instructors and given some Indonesian coffee or tea while waiting for others to arrive. In total there were 12 people in this class, but more than enough space for everyone.

Then we were given a tour of the farm. We were taught all about the different vegetables they grow, as well as the medicinal herbs. These herbs are things we don’t normally see in groceries in the west, but they bring great flavor to dishes if you know how to cook with them. Along the way the farmer even plucked a ripe pineapple for us all to share.

The Dishes (Click The Dish Name To Be Taken To Its Recipe Page)
In total we were doing 7 recipes, which was going to take about 5 hours. Our itinerary consisted of 1 paste, 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 1 dessert.
- Bumbu Bali
- Sayur Urab (Coconut & Vegetable Salad)
- Sweet Sour Tempeh
- Tuna Sambal Matah
- Bali Sate Lilit (Satay)
- Opor Ayam (Balinese Chicken Curry)
- Burbur Injin (Black Rice Pudding)

Prices
I took the beginner class because this is really my first time making authentic Indonesian and Balinese food.
